Technology Design for Data Centers: Where do memes go after they hit the internet?

In a data center, of course!

Memes live long and happy lives with the help of data center owners and operators.

AHA’s Technology engineering department brings an experienced team when providing technology engineering infrastructure to house those memes.  Our team helps your data center’s performance by providing you are:

1) Connected with fiber and Cat 6/6A cables

2) Secure with electronic access control and video systems

3) Equipped with audio-visual features to monitor operations and impress clients

AHA’s Technology team, alongside AHA’s MEP/FP Design & Engineering and BIM service experts, consult on the some of the world’s largest and most complex data center projects.

Our Technology team has picked up a few valuable lessons along the way—some painful, some enlightening, and occasionally meme-worthy. Here are a few:

We’ve picked up a few valuable lessons along the way—some painful, some enlightening, and occasionally meme-worthy. Here are a few:

Tall ceilings = ladder-friendly designs.
Systems should be designed for easy maintenance, meaning conduits should be reachable, either 12′ above finished floor (AFF) or 18” above cable trays.

    Share 3D BIM models.
Since hyper-scale data centers use 3D BIM software, share your models with contractors. We also export BIM data for network teams to assign VLANs and ports to outlets.

Facility networks need their own space.
Facility networks (separate from tenant networks) are vital for security and operation. Make sure to secure spaces like core rooms, telco demarcations, and telecom cabinets throughout the building for the facility network.  The facility networks and the tenant networks do not connect to one another and have separate pathways.  Even in a non-leased building, you will find a separation between the facility network and the production network.

      Restroom-accessible guard booths.
If you have a staffed security booth, include a restroom—a long hike, followed by 3 sets of card reader doors to reach a restroom is less than ideal!

      Standardization makes things easier.
When designing hyper-scale data centers, develop standards for the number of Points of Entry (POE) rooms, telecom conduits, security levels and other quantifiable requirement for each building.
